China reports record trade surplus

China’s trade surplus has surged to $94.4 billion in December, well above the $75.8 billion posted for the equivalent month last year.

This brought the country’s annual trade surplus to a massive $676.8 billion for 2021, an increase from $535 billion in 2020. This is the largest trade surplus any country has ever recorded.

China’s trade surplus with the United States for 2021 was $396.5 billion.
